However, the deadline for those who fall in the higher range were obligated to register by December 1, 2010. The ECHA received 9,084 registration dossiers from 3,215 companies, of which 80% were submitted by large companies; 23% were made on behalf of non-European companies.

Out of the 29 EU Member States and EEA countries, Germany had the highest percentage, at 31%. However, Croatia - who will join the EU on July 1 2013 - have been given a separate pre-registration and registration periods. 82% of the substances registered were made by groups of companies through joint submissions.

Although an exact number of registered substances and registration dossiers won't be released until September, in most cases the ECHA are merely waiting for registration fees to be paid.
